How to maintain plastic molds?

What maintenance methods does a precision plastic mold factory perform for plastic molds?

Precision plastic molds require regular maintenance during use. If defects are discovered, the mold components should be inspected for wear. Repairs should be performed if necessary, and replacements should be performed if necessary. In short, precision plastic molds should never be left in service with defects.

Common maintenance methods for precision plastic molds include:

1. External maintenance

Paint the exterior of the mold base to prevent rust. When removing the mold, apply anti-rust oil to the fixed and movable molds. Keep the mold tightly closed during storage to prevent dust from entering the cavity.

2. Daily maintenance

Lubricate various moving parts such as ejectors, slides, guide pins, and guide bushings, clean the mold surface, and clear the water channels. These are daily maintenance tasks during plastic mold production.

3. Regular maintenance

Regular maintenance includes not only daily maintenance but also cleaning the vents, venting trapped air and burnt areas, and repairing damaged and worn areas.

When the injection molding machine and precision plastic mold are operating normally, we need to test the various properties of the plastic mold and measure the dimensions of the final molded plastic part. This information can be used to determine the current status of the plastic mold and find out where the damage to the cavity, core, cooling system, and parting surface is. Based on the information provided by the plastic part, XP MOLD can determine the damage status of the plastic mold and the repair measures.
